a Free Speech
This probably won't sit well with people in general, but free anything, just like any other thing, doesn't exist independently. The subtle value to being able to speak freely comes at a price, as we see throughout this 2024 election cycle.
The free speech "model" assumes that there is limited speech out there, typically due to threat of violence, angry backlash or direct punishment (jail, torture, death...). There isn't any other kind of free (one that isn't pit against oppression), which if you examine anything closely you can see, directly experience, the dichotomy.
We constantly ignore/forget that the composition of communication is fragile, it doesn't cross interpretation well either (think: the telephone game from school) and can be taken away just as often and easily as speaker. While we develop ideals that support the right to say whatever flows out of one's mouth, there is always those moments of regret from those that show/understand compassion and self reflection. The opposite however, is also shown through those that have no sense of self and very limited intellectual resources. Those polar opposites are in place to remind you how not to act, how to be self-aware and should be moderated if we even care all that much about freedom of anything.
This recognition feel extremely complex on an individual level, so we pass it off to the others for confirmation and the protection of punishment. We ridicule (rightly) the disconnect of the school yard bully, yet they don't actually learn anything and just get more angry, more often than not. There is no "out" from this, for every bully we permanently silence, it seems 6 more pop up just vile and virulent. The saving grace to this, is they tend to burn out quickly and frustrate easily.
There's nothing here you really don't witness on the daily, don't get a general grasp of, but the "way out" is the middle (or through). The subtle course correction only you can reflect. Pushing ire against ire isn't helpful or useful for you (or the bully).
This new direction for the US election will, in fact, burn itself out and likely implode. The president elect's almost entire motivation for getting elected was to stay out of jail, there is no added benefit, he's and absolutely miserable being, angry often, suffering and further isolated by his lackeys that would support him. He doesn't enjoy any of this outside of the praise of the crowd.
It'll be painful and possible brutal, unfortunately, we probably needs this. Don't expect the idiots to even understand what happened, or learn some lesson from it. Be calm and carry on.
